Fermani Altun, the Chairman of World Ehli Beyt Love and Solidarity Association, and the Association Committee visited Mr President Abdullah Gül at his office. During the meeting which lasted for 45 minutes, views of our Association as well as problems of Alevism were touched upon. Problems encountered by Alevis in Turkey and solutions thereof were told to Mr President. Furthermore we thanked for interest, friendship, and solidarity presented by Mr President Abdullah Gül for a long time. In the framework of this view, we presented our appreciation for his deeds as an esteemed statesman. The fact that arguments such as the obligation of religious affairs course and turban, which did not have anything to do with the constitution, arose when constitutional change was put on the agenda, and crucial changes did not come to order dejected us..
Our proposals as to the constitution have been listed by our Constitution as below::
1) Defects of the constitution on democracy have to be corrected; freedom of belief, opinions and freedoms, equity, justice, and global human rights have to depend on tangible security.
2) Sanctions of Religious Affairs on religion courses have to be at the level of norms at democratic countries..
3) The essence of Turkey’s problems is correction of defects within the nature of democracy. Since it is the political authority which will implement democracy norms, anti-democratic political parties and election law have to be democratized, and have to be taken under constitutional security by avoiding arbitrariness of a single person dictatorship. Individual right to apply to the Constitutional Court has to be granted
4) As regards Alevism and Alevis; they are subject to treatment as the 3rd class citizens in Turkey in governmental facilities in both political and public arena as well as with respect to their beliefs. The distinction of Alevi-Sunni among Muslims in Turkey is artificial, lack of information and ignorance are important factors; besides operation of the system is another reason in this regard. We witness the fact that since no step is taken in the field of religious affairs and beliefs in the course of important revolutions and reforms in every field, problems in this field increase rapidly. Thanks to efforts of our association in recent years, a historical embrace has been experienced due to consciousness of all belief segments in common values. We expect the fact that the political power takes step in this field. Besides it is our another expectation that you, Mr President, will be a pioneer in respect of this issue. We wish that Alevi temples (cemevi) acquire a legal status. As the association, we will pursue this issue to the end.
Furthermore Mr President was invited to the opening of the new head office and academy premises of our association, which will be put into operation in the upcoming months.
Mr President Abdullah Gül expressed that he agreed with our fixations and views, and added that World Ehli Beyt Love and Solidarity Association rendered historical services as a common esteemed association adopted by everyone, and each of us was liable in order for it to render more efficient services. He also uttered that the most important issue in Constitutional changes was defects in democracy as expressed and he believed that all problems could be resolved in parallel with this fact. .
Furthermore he expressed that he would participate in the opening ceremony of our institution. .
